How Aakash Byju’s cheated us

Here is how we got cheated by Aakash Byju’s team. They made false promises about the IIT JEE preparatory course and enticed us to join the course. After realizing, we applied for the cancellation within 7 days after the registration (which is well within the 14 day free trial), and after 50 days of our request for cancellation, we are informed that we will lose Rs. 20,250 as cancellation charges. Do not fall prey to the promises that the Aakash Byju’s sales executives and mentors make. Once the payment is made, getting your money back is very difficult. Never expected this from a brand like Byju’s.

Here are the details. In August 2023, we were looking to admit our daughter to JEE preparatory courses and we got a call from Aakash Byju’s  on 20 Aug. During the call, we were promised the following.
– She will be allocated to a batch with classes starting at 3:45pm daily (6 days a week). This batch started 2 weeks ago, but the recordings for the last 2 weeks will be made available as soon as possible.
– The medium of instruction is English
– A 14 day free trial period. During this period, if we are not happy, we will be able to cancel without losing any money.

Even though the batch started 2 weeks back, we went ahead with the admission process and made the payment of Rs. 60,000 + Rs 2,500 (for ‘Coupon’ charges) = Rs. 62,500 on the same day.

On 24 Aug, we got a call from an Aakash Byju’s mentor who shared with us that the batch had actually started about 6 weeks ago and that the medium of instruction is Hindi. On 26Aug, my daughter confirmed the same (the instructor is speaking in Hindi and that the classes for this batch started 6 weeks ago) after she attended the first class. We immediately sent an email requesting Aakash Byju’s to move my daughter to another 3:45pm English medium batch which started recently. If this was not possible, we requested for cancellation. We also spoke with the assigned Aakash Byju’s mentor and requested immediate cancellation as we are well within the 14 day free trial period. We were assured by the mentors that the cancellation process will be initiated and that there is nothing that we need to do from our side. My daughter did not attend any classes after the first day (26 Aug). In the next few weeks, we followed up several times (called the mentors) about the cancellation but we were only told that the cancellation was under process. During this period, we also got calls multiple times from Aakash Byju’s explaining us about the JEE preparation courses and checking if we will enrol our daughter, a clear indication that they do not have a proper record of their students. Whenever we followed up about the cancellation, we were told that the process will be completed in the next 3 days. We got a call on 17 Oct from a Senior Manager in the Cancelation department mentioning that as our request for cancellation was made on 8 Oct, we will be losing Rs. 20,250 as cancellation charges. He was not ready to accept that we had requested for cancellation on 26 Aug and that too because of the false promises made by Aakash Byju’s team.

A request to Aakash Byju’s  – please refund the entire amount that we paid (Rs. 62,500) immediately and stop making false promises to others. Do not play with children’s careers.
